Tyre management

Our tyre management policy consists of two main components: wheel alignment to secure efficient performance of the wheels and tyre pressure monitoring. One of the main focus points on the maintenance staff of our companies is the monitor on rolling resistance. Correct alignment of truck- and trailers wheels and optimal tyre pressure is crucial for reducing fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions. The correct alignment of trailers in particular reduces the CO2 emissions of the fleet by at least 5% annually (TNO Report). For the fleet of Green Label Logistics this means a reduction of CO2 emissions on an annual basis of just over 1 million tons of CO2 with an average mileage of 200,000*. The complete fleet is annually checked on wheel alignment to ensure safe and efficient transports

Driving with tyres with low tyre pressure creates higher rolling resistance and excessive tire wear. The pressure of the Green LabelLogistics fleet is intensively monitored. This is done every weekend at the base of the company by a specialised tire monitoring team. The latest combinations are fitted with a tyre monitoring system that even pumps up tires while driving. This additional system does not only give an even better check on tire pressure, it also prevents downtime due to punctures and unsafe situations on the road. Besides this, tire damage related costs like additional damage on the trucks and running out of the planned schedule are prevented with this technology. Another advantage is that correctly managed tyres can make up to 30% more mileage. This results in less use of materials and energy in the production of tires with additional positive effects on the environment.
